Dinosaur Amigurumi in Two Versions

I’m here with a very elegant and detailed dinosaur amigurumi pattern. In fact, I don’t yet have a dinosaur amigurumi category on my blog, but I have shared many high-quality dinosaur amigurumi patterns. I think I’ll create such a category in a few days.

As for today’s dinosaur amigurumi toy, the pattern comes in two different versions. The first is a dinosaur holding a knife with an angry facial expression. The other is a dinosaur with a cheerful expression holding a flower. You can choose and make whichever version you prefer.

Dinosaur in Two Crochet Versions

Since I really love pastel colors, I chose shades of blue, but you can also use colors such as green or beige if you prefer. These colors work very well for dinosaur amigurumi toys.

Instructions for creating the toy’s facial expression are explained in the final part of the pattern. The knife and flower that the dinosaur holds in its hands are also included in the crochet pattern.

Let’s make the toy step by step.

Designer: yoon.crochets

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds, so there is no need to make a chain or slip stitch at the end of each round.

Round 9: 3 sc through both sides (3)

Fasten off and leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Repeat the steps to make the second foot.

Bobble Stitch

Start making a double crochet, but do not pull through the final two loops.

With two loops still on the hook, start another double crochet in the same stitch.

Again, do not pull through the final two loops. You should now have three loops on the hook.

Repeat this step one more time until you have a total of 4 loops on the hook.

Change to the main color and make a single crochet. Then change back to the secondary color.

Repeat this process 2 more times, without changing color on the very last single crochet.

Large Spikes x3

(Using the secondary color)

Round 1: 4 sc into a magic ring (4)
Round 2: (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat 2 times (6)
Round 3: (2 sc, 1 inc) repeat 2 times (8)
Round 4: 8 sc (8)

Do not stuff. Fasten off and leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Repeat the steps to make two more.

Small Spike

(Using the secondary color)

Round 1: 4 sc into a magic ring (4)
Round 2: (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat 2 times (6)
Round 3: 6 sc (6)

Do not stuff. Fasten off and leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Make only one.

Flower

(Optional — use different colors for the stem and flower if desired.)

Stem

Chain 5. Start the next step in the 2nd chain from the hook.

Round 1: 4 sc (4)

Fasten off.

Flower

NOTE: Make a large magic ring and crochet the stitches loosely to make closing the ring easier.

Round 1: (1 dc, 1 sl st) repeat 5 times into the magic ring (10)

Close the magic ring and fasten off.

Attach the stem to the flower. Leave all yarn tails, as they will be useful for sewing the flower onto the plushie.

Knife

(Optional — use different colors for the handle and blade if desired.)

Handle

Chain 3. Start the next round in the 2nd chain from the hook.

Rounds 1–2: 2 sc, ch and turn (2) — 2 rounds total
Round 3: 2 sc (2)

Fasten off.

Blade

Chain 7. Start the next round in the 2nd chain from the hook.

Round 1: 1 sl st, 1 sc, 3 hdc, 1 sc (6)

Fasten off.

Assemble the handle with the blade. Leave all yarn tails, as they will be useful for sewing the knife onto the plushie.

Assembly

(See the photo instructions below.)

  1. Sew the head to the body.

  2. Sew the feet to the body between Rounds 2 and 5.

  3. Sew the tail to the back of the body between Rounds 3 and 7.

  4. Sew the 3 large spikes to the back of the head and body. Position them as you like, but do not place them on the tail.

  5. Sew the small spike onto the tail.

  6. Sew your chosen accessory, if you made one, to one of the hands.

  7. Using thick yarn, embroider the facial expression you chose for your dinosaur.
